The Morgan Creek Landing is a diverse property that sprawls across the landscape over gently rolling hills. This property is the heart of well-known great deer hunting country. I have heard all my life that one of the best deer hunting areas near home is Saco. This is where some of the state’s restocking efforts started. In the 1950’s and 60’s the state wildlife department released whitetail deer of Michigan descent in several areas across southern Alabama. Saco was one of them and is thriving with deer and good turkey populations to this day. This property is mostly young pine timber, but there are pockets of hardwoods scattered throughout the tract. There is mature timber around two sides of the pond. There is 49 acres of 14-year-old planted pines.   There are 22 acres of 7 year old planted pines.

There is over 10 acres of hardwoods in one bottom and more in others which is mainly around the creeks and streams. Around the west side of the pond the timber is an attractive mix of hardwoods and pines. The rest of this tract is largely natural regeneration from timber harvested from 2013 and to a lesser extent in 2014.

The pond was constructed 7 years ago, and is a beauty. The fishing I have been told is excellent for bass and bream. The first thing that came to mind when I laid eyes on this pond was the amount of good looking shoreline around it. It made me want to go fishing. This pond is over 20 feet deep in the channel. There are fruit trees planted around the pond with a water line running beside them with faucets all along. The well is near the pond with electricity ran to it.

Recreation:
Deer, turkey, and duck hunting can all be enjoyed. If a great fishpond is on your list of must haves, then you owe it to yourself to see this one in person. This is a deep pond and is very well stocked. Many reports claim that the prime age of a trophy bass pond is 6 – 15 years of age. This one is seven years of age and I am told is 9 surface acres.

Region 6, Pike County, in South Alabama. Union Springs is 19 miles to the northeast Montgomery is 52 miles to the northwest. Troy is 10 miles to the southwest

Access:
From Union Springs BP station head west on US 82 for .4 miles. Veer to the left on to AL 223 and the property will be on the left in 17 miles
